The rules of the swarm.

1. Acceptance of terms

By using essaycriteria you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.

2. Description of the service

essaycriteria provides AI-generated feedback on IB Diploma Programme essays — the Extended Essay (including RPPF reflections), the TOK essay and Group 1 Higher Level essays. A multi-agent “swarm” analyses your submission against the IB’s published assessment criteria and returns criterion bands with justifications, line-level annotations and improvement guidance.

The service does not write, rewrite or generate essay content. It is a feedback tool, nothing more.

3. Eligibility and accounts

• You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of consent in your country, you need permission from a parent or guardian.
• Teachers and schools may create accounts on students’ behalf with appropriate authorisation.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for activity on your account. Tell us promptly about unauthorised access.
• Give accurate information and keep it current.

4. Acceptable use

Permitted

• Submitting your own essays for marking and feedback.
• Resubmitting revised drafts — iterative revision is the whole point.
• Using reports to understand the IB’s criteria and improve your writing.

Prohibited

• Submitting someone else’s work, or using feedback to plagiarise.
• Attempting to reverse-engineer, extract or replicate our models, prompts or scoring pipeline.
• Automated scraping, bulk abuse or credential sharing.
• Uploading malware or unlawful content, harassing anyone, or reselling the service.

5. Academic integrity

essaycriteria exists to help you improve your own writing — it provides guidance, never answers, and it aligns with the IB’s emphasis on academic honesty. Submitting AI-generated work as your own is academic malpractice under any school’s rules; our integrity scan exists to help you catch trouble before your supervisor does. We may suspend accounts that misuse the service in ways that violate their institution’s integrity policies.

6. Intellectual property

Your work

You keep full ownership of everything you submit. You grant us a limited licence to process, analyse and store it solely to provide the service. We do not claim ownership of your essays, do not train AI models on them, and do not add them to any plagiarism database.

Our service

The service’s design, reports, prompts, scoring pipeline and software are protected by intellectual property law. Don’t copy or create derivative works without written permission.

7. Feedback and disclaimers

• Reports are educational guidance based on the IB’s published criteria. They are not an official IB evaluation and carry no guarantee of any grade.
• AI systems can be wrong. Our multi-engine, multi-iteration process is designed to make errors rare and every claim checkable — but you should treat feedback as one rigorous perspective, to be weighed alongside your supervisor’s advice.
• Final assessment always rests with your school and the IB’s examiners.

8. Pricing and payment

• Marking a single criterion is free. A full report is $12 per essay. Schools and cohorts are priced individually.
• Prices are shown before purchase, in US dollars. Payments are one-time per essay; there are no auto-renewing subscriptions.
• Refunds are available within 14 days of purchase if no essay has been processed. Failed submissions are never charged.
• We may change prices with 30 days’ notice; changes never affect a purchase you’ve already made.

9. Service availability

We target high availability but don’t guarantee uninterrupted service. We’ll give advance notice of planned maintenance where practical. Features may be modified or discontinued over time. Keep your own copies of submitted work — though reports remain available in your account history.

10. Limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, essaycriteria is not liable for academic outcomes or indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is capped at the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations; in those places, the limits apply to the fullest extent permitted.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify essaycriteria against claims arising from your violation of these terms, infringement of others’ rights, or misuse of the service or submitted content.

12. Termination

• By you: at any time, by deleting your account or contacting support.
• By us: for violation of these terms, fraud or abuse, non-payment, or legal/security risk. Deleted data is handled per the privacy policy.

13. Dispute resolution and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which essaycriteria operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are handled first by informal resolution — email us and we’ll try to fix it — and otherwise by binding arbitration where permitted.

14. Changes to these terms

Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

15. General provisions

These terms are the entire agreement between you and essaycriteria. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a right isn’t a waiver of it. Rights may be assigned only by essaycriteria, and never in a way that reduces your protections.
